AUDITION NOTICE – ‘We’ll Always Have Paris’ by Jill Hyem

It is set in the Spring of 2010 in a flat on the top floor of a house in the Saint-Germain area of Paris, the home for the past year of Nancy, an ex/early retired head mistress. Anna, an old school-friend, has nursed her sick and controlling husband for the past 20 years, but he has recently died, so Nancy has invited her for a week-end in Paris. Also joining them on the first night will be another old school-friend, Rachel, who used to have pig-tails and buck teeth and was a bit of a show-off. She has also been living in Paris, but has changed not only her image but also her name and is now ‘Raquel’. Then there is Madame Boussiron, the landlady, who informs Nancy that she should be informed if someone is staying as there is an extra charge if the second room is occupied. The only male character is Charlot, an out of work actor who was once in a film with Catherine Deneuve although his scene was cut. When not acting he does odd jobs, mostly for Madame Boussiron, who expects a little more than plumbing! A feel-good play with laughter and tears, the promise of romance, friendship and anger and the advantages and disadvantages of growing old. With French songs of the era during scene changes, songs by Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet, Charles Aznavour, Juliette Greco and other French singers, We’ll Always Have Paris is certainly a play that will leave audiences charmed, amused, thoughtful – and singing all the way home!

Auditions will take place on MONDAY, 10TH DECEMBER, at 8 p.m., in The Green Room.
