BOX OFFICE : 07786 425479
Directed by Joe Haynes and produced by Sue Edwards, Twelfth
Night is Shakespeare’s funniest and best loved comedy. This
new production promises Music, Song and Laughter with
Shakespeare’s funniest characters including Malvolio and Sir
Toby Belch and, of course, confused and passionate lovers!
Set
against the beautiful backdrop of St Mary’s Church, the
comedy will be performed by an experienced Wargrave Theatre
Workshop cast giving their twelfth outdoor production. In
the poll of Festival Events, ‘Shakespeare on the Green’ was
a clear winner and we strongly recommend that you don’t miss
this production. This year we will be providing improved
tiered seating, all with unrestricted view. In the unlikely
even of rain, we will ensure that our audiences are kept
dry.
Our acclaimed open-air
Shakespeare productions are the most popular festival event.
This new production promises laughter, music, song and
dance. Why not picnic on lovely Mill
Green before the performance? A must-see for the whole family.
Centrepiece as ever was the open air Shakespeare and
compared with two years ago, we were blessed with reasonably
clement weather. It only rained for ten minutes on the first
night and the heavy rain on Saturday evening, abated fifteen
minutes before the start, enabling the show to go on after
frantic mopping up and drying of seats by the dedicated
backstage and front of house teams.
The
cast and production team were delighted to receive so many
messages of congratulations and thanks; a small selection is
included below.
“The older I get the more I am coming to the view that
heaven is not a place for the departed, but rather consists
of those times in life when all is well with the world. One
such occasion was last Saturday night watching a play by
Shakespeare presented with great charm in a leafy corner of
Berkshire. Thank you for a wonderfully happy evening.
Wargrave is again in your debt for providing high quality
theatre on our doorstep."
“Thank you for a wonderful evening. I have not seen a
Shakespeare production since my school days at St Bernard's
Convent in Slough. They killed any passion I might have
felt for drama or literature. I do, of course, read as much
as I can these days, but your production on Saturday night
has lit a fire in my soul to attend more Shakespeare plays,
to read as much as I can of his work and given me a hunger
to understand more of his work.” (Member of Party of
Rotarians)
“Pete Charles, in the role of Feste brought all the comic
subplots together under his skilful umbrella. He had all the
actors singing and dancing with him and even had the
audience participating. Throughout the play the five
musicians strummed away adding greatly to the overall
atmosphere. The setting was perfect against the delightful
backdrop of the church and the most stunning costumes
transformed the audience back to the 17th century.
Congratulations to WTW for yet
another excellent production.”
