The SECRET DIARY of ADRIAN MOLE

aged 13¾

By Sue Townsend

19th – 21st November 2009

Directed by Chez Payne-Annetts

With a "smaller than usual for Wedge" cast, Chez Payne-Annetts has encouraged Wedge members to also take roles and responsibilities in the backstage work of the production, including sound, light, costume, set design and stage managing.

Chez,  on her ‘solo’ directorial debut, has been working tirelessly with her enthusiastic cast and backstage team made up entirely of Wedge members to bring you this well loved story chronicling the anguish and pain of adolescence. Who can fail to be touched by Adrian’s plaintive confession ‘I’m desperately in love with Pandora’.

Follow the trials and tribulations of a year in the life of Adrian through his diary, brought to colourful life, including his first kiss, and much more.

Both funny and touching, this story has something for everyone. Please support by ensuring your attendance. Why not get a group of family and friends together. This is a fun night out at this dreary time of year, much better than watching Jedward, and a bargain to boot.

For her directorial debut Chez Payne-Annetts could not have chosen a better crafted piece than Sue Townsends witty and perceptive story of teenage angst. The actors obviously enjoyed their roles and played them with convincing authority. The result was a hugely entertaining and amusing evening with many ‘laugh out loud’ moments.

All of the 16 strong cast, with an average age of 14 performed well together with loads of pace and enthusiasm but special mention must go to Bart Jennings and Rhianna Inman whose portrayals of the elderly Bert and Grandma were extremely well observed characterisations.

The actors were well supported by a competent backstage, sound and lighting crew all drawn from Wedge members.

Well done everyone.
